The Pentagon has commented on reports that Iranian forces are trying to intercept a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, saying threats to maritime shipping require an international response.

"The threats to international freedom of navigation require an international solution, and the global economy depends on the free flow of trade," Urban said. "All countries must protect and preserve this cornerstone of global prosperity."
