UN: Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia's Abha airport undermines political process in Yemen

The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the targeting of the Yemeni Houthi group Ansar Allah by the Abha Civil Airport in southern Saudi Arabia, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.

"We urge all parties to prevent any incidents that would escalate the current situation and pose a serious threat to national and regional security and undermine the UN-led political process in Yemen," Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN secretary general, told a news conference on Wednesday.

The UN official reminded all parties of the recent UN Security Council statement on Yemen, which stresses the need to ensure the security of civilians and vital civilian infrastructure in line with international humanitarian law, reiterated the call to the internationally recognized government of Yemen and the Houthis to re-engage in the political process and focus on Yemeni dialogue To end the fighting.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen yesterday confirmed the injury of 26 civilians as a result of the targeting of the Huthis airport at the airport.
