UN calls for new escalation in Strait of Hormuz

The United Nations has warned of a new escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, which could have serious consequences, and called for prevention.

Commenting on reports of Iranian boats intercepting a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Secretary General Farhan Haq said Thursday: "We have seen the statements made by the two sides. Once all parties in the strait to avoid escalation. "

"The Secretary-General has clearly stated that any new escalation in the region would be a disaster," Haq said. "We would like to ensure free passage of ships to all countries in the Gulf."

Media reports have reported that boats believed to belong to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards intercepted a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

Britain has expressed concern about "Iranian actions" and called for Tehran to take steps to reduce tension in the region, while Iran denied an attempt to intercept the British carrier, and described Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif, British statements in this regard as "worthless claims."
