Tokyo: A shipment related to Japan aboard the two targeted carriers in the Gulf of Oman

The Japanese Ministry of Commerce announced that two oil tankers attacked Thursday in the Gulf of Oman by an unknown party carrying a shipment related to Japan.

The announcement coincided with talks between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in an effort to ease tensions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States in the region.

Iranian media reported the evacuation of 44 sailors from the FRONT ALTAIR and KOKUKA COURAGEOUS vessels carrying the Marshall Islands and Panama respectively.

The incident occurred today after four merchant ships were subjected to similar acts of sabotage off the coast of the UAE port of Fujairah. The United States blamed Iran for the incident.
