The US Treasury Department Imposses Sanctions Against Venezuela's Foreign Minister

The US Treasury Department on Friday imposed financial sanctions on Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Ariisa for allegedly being part of an "illegal regime" in reference to the regime of President Nicolas Maduro.

Similar sanctions have also been imposed on a high-ranking judge, Carole Badia.

"The Treasury Department will continue to target corrupters who support Maduro, including those who assume diplomatic and judicial responsibilities for this illegal system," Treasury Secretary Stephen Menuchin said in a statement.

"The United States will not stand by the spectators while the illegal Maduro regime deprives the Venezuelan people of their wealth, humanity and right to democracy," he said.

He pointed out that the American administration stands by the Venezuelan people and an international coalition committed to hold those responsible for the tragic deterioration of Venezuela accountable.
