The European Union welcomed the start of the forces of the Ansar Allah (Houthis) group in Yemen from Yemeni ports on the Red Sea coast.

"Finally we have seen signs of tangible progress in the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement of December 2018, which is a crucial step in pushing forward the process leading to comprehensive political negotiations between the parties to the conflict in Yemen," a statement released by the EU Foreign Affairs Service said Thursday.

The EU said the two sides should exercise restraint and avoid any actions that would lead to a general escalation, such as the Huthi attacks on Saudi oil platforms, which we strongly condemn.

The statement expressed the expectation of the Union that all parties adhere to their commitments and cooperate constructively with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, and the United Nations Mission to Support the Convention Hodeidah (UNMHA), "with a view to reaching a comprehensive political settlement, which remains the only solution to end this war and the situation of Yemen In the path of lasting peace. "

The European Union also reiterated its continued support for the efforts of the Special Envoy and his team, particularly in the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Hodeidah.

Earlier, there were reports of the withdrawal of the Ansar Allah (Huthi) forces from the port of Hodeidah, the country's largest port, as previously agreed between the parties to the conflict.
