Russia is beginning to build an Internet network that is exclusively global and independent of the world

MOSCOW – Russia began building its own Internet network yesterday, in the event that the world's main servers are disconnected from the country and is seeking to increase its control of the network's content.
The law was passed after Russian MPs backed it, a move critics see as a step toward tightening Internet censorship and possibly isolating the network, as in China.

The law succeeded in attracting 334 members of the House of Representatives while 47 opposed.
The bill's authors say it will ensure Russia's security of its networks, especially after US President Donald Trump unveiled his new strategy for information security last year.

The law also comes after US officials have been accused of a series of Internet attacks by Russia, Iran, North Korea and China, warning that any hostile and defensive counter-interventions will henceforth be answered.
