Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that Iran is seeking to penetrate the region, threatening Arab national security after 2011.

Mubarak said during an interview with the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa that all the forces that have ambitions in the region have exploited this historical situation to achieve their interests.

The former president pointed out that Egypt stood with Iraq in its war against Iran and stood with the brothers in the Gulf against any Iranian threat to them, stressing that he and the late Saudi King Abdullah had a common vision to counter Iran's ambitions in the region, For understanding with them.

He explained that he tried to improve relations with Iran during the days of President Khatami, and met with him in Geneva, pointing out that the militants missed opportunities to improve relations with Tehran.
