The cities of Paris, Madrid and Brussels have won appeals before the European Union General Court against the rules of the Union that they have seen so low that they do not help to reduce the percentage of pollution caused by exhaust carsDiesel.
The Luxembourg-based European court partially dropped one of the European Commission's rules and "placed excessive restrictions on emissions of nitrogen oxides for light and commercial passenger car tests," according to the ruling. The judgment may be appealed.
Cities filed suit in 2016, shortly after the new rules were promulgated by the Commission, accusing the EU's executive arm of exceeding its mandate by imposing less stringent measures than those set up in so-called Euro 6 standards.
And demanded Paris, Which had implemented a number of measures to reduce the pollution rates, a symbolic compensation of one euro for damage to the city. The court found the claim to be sufficient.
